Grant Shapps, the MP for Welwyn Hatfield, is spearheading a campaign to win back services for the Post Office in Welwyn Garden City.
The Post Office in Londis near the Howard Centre, is only permitted to offer a very limited range of services, while Post Offices in nearby towns like Hatfield, Hertford and Stevenage offer a far wider selection.
Their refusal to allow additional services in Welwyn Garden City is because they believe it is reasonable for residents to travel to neighbouring towns like Hatfield in order to access them. However, their refusal to offer these services may mean that the Post Office won’t be able to continue.
Sachin, one of the two owners, commented:
“Local services can’t get basic services like passport renewal without leaving Welwyn Garden City.”
Mr Shapps commented:
“I disagree with the Post Office and intend to make my stance clear by writing to them, explaining the need for the expansion in the services they offer in Welwyn Garden City.”
“Should the Post Office not approve the expansion of their services locally within a reasonable amount of time, I will press them until they do.”
