Flooding at a main road junction is finally being addressed after local MP Grant Shapps raised it as “a matter of urgency”.

Hatfield residents contacted Mr Shapps to raise concerns about road safety on the corner of Lemsford Road and Wellfield Road in Hatfield.

The junction, which sits next to the fire station on Wellfield Road, floods regularly in rainy weather.

Following pressure applied to Hertfordshire County Council by Mr Shapps and County Councillor James Bond, the council has confirmed it will soon begin work to establish the cause of the consistent flooding with a view to then carrying out further work to address the cause more permanently.

Mr Shapps said:

“I’ve seen for myself how badly the road floods when it rains.

“I’m pleased the county council has listened, and that it will now carry out works to finally address this issue.”

Mr Shapps thanks those who brought this issue to his attention and looks forward to seeing the issue resolved by the County Council.
