Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps has spoken of his concerns about the poor performance of blood tests at the New QEII hospital.
A number of constituents have recently been in touch with Grant about their experiences at the hospital with some reporting queues to have their blood tests going out of the waiting room door and down the hallway.
Grant took this up with the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust CEO Nick Carver to ask what steps they are making to rectify this issue. In Mr Carver’s response, he stated that the ‘demand for this service has risen to the point that exceeds the capacity’ which has led to a longer wait to be seen.
Mr Carver added that they were undertaking a number of actions in order to reduce the waiting times and to improve the service.
After receiving Nick Carver’s reply, Grant commented, “I’m really concerned to hear about this. It’s just not acceptable. This is exactly what those of us who campaigned against moving services away from Welwyn Hatfield Hatfield warned would happen. Whilst the Trust can say they’re fixing this, what anyone in Welwyn Hatfield knows, is that for far too long health services have been stripped out and sent elsewhere. This is just not sustainable which is why I’ve launched my Make Healthcare Local campaign.”
