Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps has welcomed proposals from the Post Office to restore a branch in Welwyn Garden City, after he led the campaign against the closure in October.
The Post Office proposes to open a branch in McColls at 43 Howardsgate, with services offered from two tills at the retail counter and longer opening hours. A six-week public consultation has begun and closes on 25th August 2017, following which the Post Office plans to open the branch in September.
The announcement comes after Grant presented a petition to the Post Office signed by over 1,000 local residents, which called for a service to be restored.
Grant said: “I welcome the news from Post Office Ltd that they are proposing to open a branch in WGC in September, only 100 metres from where the previous branch was located. This is a victory for local residents who campaigned vociferously alongside me for a service to be restored. I will now be making sure that the Post Office follows through on these proposals, and I encourage people to take part in the consultation.”
