The doors of the Welwyn Sports and Social Club (WSSC) have been officially opened once again after extensive renovation works.
The club was founded more than four decades ago by a group of volunteers and thanks to its ethos of inclusivity, variety and friendliness to members young and old, the membership has rapidly grown. As a result of its popularity, the club has used the forced closure due to Covid-19, to bring forward considerable building renovations to expand the club.
The new look club has seen considerable improvement including a new, larger bar, larger snooker room and easier access.
WSSC Chairman Martin Worman said, “It was an honour to have our local MP Grant Shapps officially open the new extension. It provided great recognition to all the volunteers who have managed the facilities along with the new build and renovation. The club is a real asset and focal point for the local community.”
After officially opening the club and inspecting the improvements, local MP Grant Shapps commented, “I’m really pleased to see the fantastic new look Welwyn Sports and Social Club. It plays a vital role in the community of Welwyn and so it’s great news that these changes make it bigger and better! Thank you to the club’s committee for making this happen and I know residents will enjoy their club even more.”
