Welwyn Hatfield Member of Parliament Grant Shapps was put through his paces on a recent visit to Woods Avenue based Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School.
Grant, who regularly tours every school in the area, joined Bishop’s Hatfield for one of their Life Skills lesson. During the visit, Grant spoke to around 40 students about his role as an MP and then threw the floor open to be quizzed on anything at all. Grant who said he was ‘impressed’ by the level of questioning was asked about everything from plans for Brexit, possible changes to the voting system and something of immediate concern for many in the room: student fee tuition loans.
One of Bishop’s Hatfield’s Head Girls Izzy Cardy, said of Grant’s visit: “It was good to get an insight into the work of politicians and to have the opportunity to question Mr Shapps about local and national issues. It brought politics a little closer to home.”
After speaking to the students and having his picture taken with those studying A-level politics, Grant said, ““It is always great to visit Bishop’s Hatfield and get pupil’s take on life. It’s fantastic to know how engaged young people are in local and national issues which can only be a benefit to our community as a whole.”
