Local MP Grant Shapps visited Carter’s Sunflowers Specialist Nursery for children with autism, social communication needs and associated disabilities on Friday.

Over the course of the visit Mr Shapps heard about the establishment’s achievements and met with parents whose children attend the nursery.

Through its amazing work, Carter’s Sunflowers has helped many parents return to work rather than being a full-time carer – in turn improving their own mental health and wellbeing.

Carter’s Sunflowers supports 26 families in the Welwyn Hatfield and wider Hertfordshire area.

Based in Ludwick Family Club, Welwyn Garden City, the nursery is hoping to expand to provide services for more children in need.

“The feedback from parents today is clear – Carter’s Sunflowers is a unique place for children with specialist needs,” said Mr Shapps.

“The attention to detail from those caring for the children was incredible – I could see that they felt comfortable here”.

“I’m proud to be the local MP for the nursery and will be doing all I can to help find them a larger premisis so they can expand and continue their vital work.”

Lucy Oliveira of Carter’s Sunflowers said “we really appreciate Grant coming along today to find out more about our nursery.

“Having Grant on side to find a larger building is excellent news and we’re grateful for his support.”

The organisation also offers special educational needs training and gives confidence to parents that their child is making progress.
