Welwyn Hatfield-based charity Isabel Hospice has scooped a huge cash boost.

It was presented with more than £4,000 by MP Grant Shapps.

The money was raised by Welwyn Hatfield Conservatives at their annual Christmas Market.

The donation means that more than £150,000 has been raised by the annual fair over 30 years.

Mr Shapps, who presented a cheque for £4,018 to charity representatives, said: “Isabel Hospice is an incredible local charity that works hard to help those who are seriously ill.

“Its work is so important and I am extremely proud that our local Conservative branch continues to support this fantastic cause.”

One service it provides is Hospice at Home. Carers visit people in their homes as their last days or weeks approach to ensure they are surrounded by loved ones, rather than spending that time in hospital.

Isabel Hospice Community Fundraiser, Cheryl Cusack, said: “We were delighted to receive the cheque for £4,018 from Grant Shapps MP. A donation of this size would cover the cost of providing Hospice at Home care for local people for six days.

“Thank you to everyone who attended the Christmas Fair at Hatfield House, contributing to this amazing total.”
