Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps recently visited the Cancer Research UK shop in Howardsgate to meet with volunteer Sonia Chittock, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
Grant contacted Sonia after seeing her inspiring story in the Welwyn Hatfield Times, to relay his personal admiration at her efforts to support her local Cancer Research UK shop through knitting scarves. Grant was delighted to be given his own knitted scarf by Sonia.
Grant said: “It was fantastic to meet Sonia and the staff at the Cancer Research UK shop, who do a fantastic job for the charity. Sonia is a real inspiration, knitting scarves to raise money for cancer research while undergoing cancer treatment herself.
“I know how devastating cancer can be on one’s life, having been diagnosed myself many years back. I have no doubt that Sonia’s contribution to the shop will make a difference to those who turn to Cancer Research UK for support. I wish Sonia all the best with her treatment, and a very swift recovery.”
Sonia said: “It was great to meet Grant and have the opportunity to give him one of my scarves in person. I was so pleased to receive a personal letter from him saying how impressed he is with my efforts to raise money for Cancer Research UK. I am determined not to let my cancer stop me from giving back to the charity which has done so much to support me.”
