Calling all sports men and women.

Organisers of WGC’s centenary celebrations are staging a range of events throughout 2020 – and want local teams and clubs to get involved.

The highlight will be a Week of Sport running from Saturday, June 27 to Sunday, July 5. But there will be a host of other activities throughout 2020.

The celebrations are being organised by the Welwyn Garden City Centenary Foundation.

Announcing his backing, Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps said: “In an Olympic year, this will be a fantastic way to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get up and have a go at sport in their area.

“I can’t wait to see the range of sports that will have an opportunity to show off their incredible clubs and teams.”

The Week of Sport will start with a cycling event in Welwyn Garden City centre to include races for children and adults. It will culminate with spectacular dragon boat racing at Stanborough Lakes.

John Beech, Chair of the Centenary ‘Sport for All’ Group, commented: “The 2020 Centenary celebrations are a wonderful opportunity for Welwyn Garden City’s sports clubs to showcase their sport, their facilities and the activities they offer.

“We are delighted Grant is supporting us and encouraging their participation.”

So far 45 clubs representing 23 sports have agreed to be a part of the 2020 celebrations.

But does that include your sport?
