A new cash machine is due to be installed in Welwyn after the area’s only ATM was closed down back in March.
Welwyn residents were left without any access to cash withdrawal facilities after the only bank branch, Barclays, closed down in March taking the ATM with it.
Since then, there has been a campaign to bring back cash services, which has involved the local MP, Councillors, and resident groups.
Grant Shapps MP said, “I’ve been working with the community over the past few months to bring back this essential service.
“It was disappointing to lose the Barclays branch, but we finally have an installation date for a new ATM, which I’m sure will be welcomed by local businesses and residents.”
Local Councillor, Tony Kingsbury, commented, “Both Grant and I have been liaising with Tesco, and I am delighted that a solution for an ATM has been found. This supports the local residents and helps to ensure businesses thrive.”
The new machine will be fitted to the outside of Tesco Express on the high street and is due for installation on Tuesday 1st October.
Duane Campbell, Head of ATM, Tesco Bank said: “We provide an extensive ATM network which covers the majority of our stores, and are committed to ensuring that our services remain available and free at the point of use for all customers.
“We’re delighted to have recently worked with the local community to facilitate the opening of a new ATM in Welwyn. This will be available for customers to use in October.”
