Patients hit as NHS cash crisis forces big cutbacks
« on: March 03, 2010, 10:36:53 PM »
The funding gap [£130 million across English PCTs] has already had an impact on patients, with GPs in Hertfordshire being told to get "approval" for a list of procedures including hysterectomies, removal of "skin lumps and bumps" and tooth extraction. Managers have advised the family doctors that in many cases "it is usually better to wait to see if symptoms resolve themselves".

Do they mean, 'see if the patient is still alive in a few months - then maybe we'll do something about it. Otherwise, problem solved'?

Three quarters of GPs have no faith in their PCT
« Reply #3 on: March 05, 2010, 08:26:55 AM »
No wonder the latest Rate your PCT survey (published 3rd March) found that three-quarters of UK GPs have no confidence in their local primary care managers.

Dr Richard Vautrey, GPC deputy chairman, said the poor ratings were no surprise.

'GPs feel very frustrated about the way PCTs seem to make providing services to patients more difficult rather than less,' he said. 'For real change in the relationships we need a change in philosophy at the centre.'

DAMNING reports on the state of the National Health Service, suppressed by the government, reveal how patients’ needs have been neglected.

They diagnose a blind pursuit of political and managerial targets as the root cause of a string of hospital scandals that have cost thousands of lives.
