25/02/2010 Council house rent increase 2010-11
« on: February 26, 2010, 07:36:25 PM »
The annual increase in renting a council home has been announced. Rents will increase by an average of 1.73 per cent from April, less than half of the increase imposed last year.
This increase is unavoidable and is set in line with central government rules which the council must follow.

For every £1 paid by council tenants only around 58 pence is spent on services in Welwyn Hatfield. The rest of the money has to be returned to the government.

Councillor Roger Trigg, Executive Member for Housing, said: "It is unfortunate that more of the rental income cannot be spent on local housing services, but we will continue to seek efficiencies so that we can deliver the highest quality services possible."

Tenants will receive updated rent notices detailing the new weekly rate in March.
