19/02/2010 Biggest spend in Community Chest history
« on: February 19, 2010, 08:27:00 PM »
In early February, Councillors at Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council approved just over £27,000 worth of Community Chest funding - the biggest amount to ever be approved in one hit, showing that the initiative is going from strength to strength.
Among the projects being funded are:

•£4,200 sponsorship of Inspirational Arts "3 Music" event, a countywide event that gives youngsters the opportunity to be discovered. Prizes include a day in a recording studio and a personalised music video! (Brookmans Park, Little Heath and Panshanger wards)
•£7,000 for the return of Moonlight football, providing activities for teenagers on Friday nights under the floodlights at Gosling Sports Park in partnership with Child UK. Also new 'girl's night only' activities. (Hatfield South, Brookmans Park and Little Heath wards)
•£4,000 towards training costs for King George V Football Club (Hatfield East and Hollybush wards)
•£2,000 for the installation of a lift at St John's Youth Club (Hatfield South ward).
Hatfield West ward funded the largest number of projects, totalling £10,000. The projects centre on activities for young people in Hatfield with £2,000 going towards each of the following projects:

•Play Ranger scheme (February half term)
•Annual Sports Awards 2010
•Skate Park consultation for Hatfield
•Youth Council gig night at The Forum
•Summer Sizzler programme design.
Councillor John Dean, Leader of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, said: "I'm really pleased with the level of spending on community initiatives by local ward councillors. The sheer volume of projects now coming through is testament to the importance of this scheme in promoting community initiatives at the heart of our neighbourhoods. Long may it continue."
