Wow, they've missed huge chunks. How odd.

Normally Google roll out an area only when it's fully done - which is why there are places, such as my parents house in Cheshunt, that got photographed nearly two years ago and still not live. My dad was at the front door, so will almost definitely be on the image (ghosted out, naturally).

You can see by going to Google Maps and just dragging the street view 'man' on to the map - all the covered roads will show up.

Of course they'll need a time machine to go back to when these photos were taken!  :)

Google Street View Captures Grass Verge Parkers on Camera in WGC
« Reply #8 on: February 21, 2010, 04:34:02 PM »
Google Street View vans were photographing residential streets in WGC this weekend. I came across them twice; both times in areas blighted by the "Scourge of the Verge" parkers. Whilst the byelaw No. 1 fails in any way to deter such anti-social behaviour, at least a true picture of the state of our grass verges and the culprits responsible for damaging them and making them unsafe will be available for all to see.

The council will no doubt say that this was just a one off or something!

Good to see Google capturing everything though!

Great technology for joining up the photographs. Shame they didn't get the house numbers right though. I checked a couple of streets in a my home city and they were a few houses out.

Google most likely uses the Royal Mail postcode database, which seems to be rather inaccurate at street level.

It's still pretty impressive, but is in its infancy. Imagine the level of detail in the future, especially with all of the additional layers you can add with Google.

It's all about needing to prove everything these days. Even if the cars are there, or you can see the damage to the verges, the council can still argue that it doesn't happen all the time. You'd need to probably send in photos or videos for every day to prove that, and you probably won't.

And if they don't punish anyone anyway, there's no point wasting your time.

It's all a joke really. The verges on Campion Road are a mess too, and cars even drive down the pedestrian only pavements here!

It appears that streetview has its uses - ie to highlight the damn stupid parking that we have to put up with every day that the councill deny is a problem... take Lemsford Road for example

In the first pic you can see the cars have squeezed themselves between the zigzags (for the firestation) and the double yellows on the corner. Had there been some thought put into this they could have extended the double yellows to the zigzags and prevented this idiocy!!

The second pic shows how people take no notice whatsoever of the highway code and park directly opposite a turning!! (rule 243)

Hey - but what do I know?
