Watch the video and imagine if Hatfield were as nice as this.  Not impossible if we all put our minds to it.

(I know it's rap and in Dutch, but just look at how cycling is so normal.)

I'll be in Holland tomorrow (currently in Denmark, having driven from Sweden) and while cycling is big in main cities throughout mainland Europe (not just Holland), it is still not so popular in rural areas or smaller towns.

I can't see Hatfield going big on cycling (given the likelihood of your bike being nicked, I'd see even less incentive to cycle unless I knew it would be secure anywhere I left it), but London could certainly do better. The problem is that Amsterdam is geared (sic) for cycling and they have all the room in the world to do it - and they seem to understand the concept of giving way. Cyclists in London are a menace, thinking they're above everyone else.

It's enjoyable to cycle abroad, but in the UK we need to change the mindset of cyclists, motorists and probably even pedestrians!!

And not a cycle helmet to be seen! (as so it should be here) More pics on http://amsterdamize.com/

Also a film on Copenhagen from a US perspective http://www.streetfilms.org/

The TfL posters for the new cycling super highways (sponsored by Barclays!) show three riders, two of which aren't wearing helmets! Not sure why they'd think this was a good message to send out, unless they know too many cyclists will cause chaos - so best encourage a few to 'drop out' so to speak.
