Housing Trusts-the 'new' (NOT) Social Housing
« on: November 03, 2009, 09:37:04 AM »
Why do MP's treat Trusts as if it is something new /good? I do not 'get it'?

I know this post wont be popular with some because Housing is a 'hot topic' fro debate at the moment - but anyway, I wanted to say this:

It seems very odd to me that both political (sorry, LibDems - I have no idea on their policies) parties are keen on Housing Trusts becoming the 'Social Housing' of the 21st Century.  The Guinness Trust  was one of the first Trusts - formed for philanthropic reasons and not based on money and profit (as it seems to be today).

History of Guinness Trust

I thought history had shown they did not work as the sole provider of social housing.

Homelessness is the result of a number of things - which NO Government seems to want to address or 'invest' money in - because (it seems from my perception) that they think it is all a 'lost cause'.  They'd rather buy their furnishings for their home/s, moan about how hard their job is (excuse me - YOU CHOSE to do the job - surely because of caring for others? or maybe not - maybe it was -is- to line your own pocket). Who knows.....

Reasons for Homelessness:
"Take a mixture of mental health problems, family breakdown, erratic school attendance, low educational achievements and learning difficulties, followed
by inevitable consequences such as minimal skills, poor job prospects, abusive relationships, vulnerability and loss of confidence, and one starts to appreciate the problem."  (taken from http://www.churchhousingtrust.org.uk/whyhomeless.htm

Newlon Housing Trust - to give AFFORDABLE housing to those who need/ed it.
http://www.newlon.org.uk/About-Newlon/our-history.cfm

The Quaker Housing Trust - again set up to provide 'affordable' Social housing to those in need.  Why of why, does this seem to be a common thread throughout all housing and policy?

 http://www.qht.org.uk/about/history.htm

It does seem to be a common thread / topic these days that there is NO affordable housing and those who (it seems) to need it more are the vulnerable / mentally physically ill/ elderly etc.,  There should have been and always should be Council Housing available to those who may want it.

Housing? What housing? None of the trusts have any housing, none of the councils have any housing (Because they sold them all to greedy landlords). Affordable housing? would Mr. Shapps care to define exactly what that means? Is this the same 'affordable housing' that gets all bought up by t-mobile and other greedy landlords before it's even built? I'm a tad confused on this whole housing issue, because from where i'm sitting, there isn't any.
