Just been reading a lot of the polsts of the last few days and am left wondering wohat this forum is often being used for. For myself I have tried to let people know about local issuies that are affecting local people and seeking help, guidance, advice, support and the benefit of anyone's experience. One of the people who has been most helpful, most supportive and has given his time efforts and financial support to Resolve is Grant Shapps MP. I'm not a natural Tory and Grant knows this, but I must say as I find and I see an MP who is most definately doing what I believe MPs should do and that is work for the benefit of his constituency. He works all hours, days, evenings, weekends. I know this for sure. I didn't vote for him in the last election so I'm not saying this as his campaign mananger, but as a fact as I have seen the work he puts in on nehalf of his constituants whether we voted for him or not. Remember, we live in a Parliamentary reformist political system that took place after a revolution that was won by the parliamentarians. It seems to be and standard "British" pass time to slate the governament of the day. It was 1997 when the same things were being said about the last govenrment!! We should either work with it or start another revolution!!
There is no question there will be a new governing party after the next election but we, the electorate will decide who it is so we best get out and vote when the time comes.
Roll on the revolution I say...the current system is ludicrously expensive and doesn't deliver what the people need!
Some sortition would be a great improvement.
Regarding Grant, (who I like)he's certainly expended lots of energy on activity/publicity but not really achieved many worthwhile results and lets face it, it's results that count.
The QE2's in tatters, many post-offices have been closed, there's still no replacement for SplashLands and now his parties council is looking to open an incinerator next to a school!
I'm afraid the only way to affect real change is for the taxpayers to start flexing their financial muscles as all the parties listen when the funds run low.
