Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council has responded to local demand by housing 26 single residents into recently renovated accommodation.
Ley House in Welwyn Garden City, originally sheltered housing, has been renovated to meet the housing needs of younger people in the area. One of the ground floor flats has been adapted for disabled access and the units all now comply with Decent Homes standards.
All units were quickly snapped up through the recently launched Homes Choice Scheme - a scheme which allows residents on the council housing register to bid for available council properties on a weekly basis.
Executive Member for Housing and Community, Councillor Roger Trigg, says: “The demand for affordable housing in this area is huge, and we are sensitive to the changing needs of those seeking homes. The renovation of Ley House is a great example of how we are making best use of the affordable housing stock in the borough to help meet those demands. It is great to see these flats back in use and we hope that the new residents will be very happy there.”
