Lawn mowing for the disabled and Ederly
« on: May 06, 2009, 11:37:54 AM »
I have to write in after a particularly disagreeable conversation with someone from Circo regarding a lawn mowing service for the elderly and disabled in this ward.
I had reason to complain about the lawn clippings plus weed and grass seed from the lawn being blown all over the flower borders of my garden, it takes me weeks to rmove the resulting weeds from this action and when I complained to the lady at Circo I was referred to as a "WELFARE" case  >:(
I am not and never have been a welfare case and take great umbrage at this terminology.
I am registered disabled...nothing more, and I believe like all the others on Lawn mowing list that we should be treated with more respect and not told by a representative of Circo "If I don't like it come off the list".
I don't make a habit of complaining, but I try to keep my flower borders as neat as possible, but I am fighting a losing battle and I have had other elderly residents of the ward say they are having the same problem and feel that they are having shoddy work done because they are elderly or disabled and I must say after the conversation with Circo today I am of the same opinion
I wonder if any others like myself have had reason to complain about Circo's attitude and service.

Angelstar - unfortunately, the disabled and elderly come under the 'welfare case' section now. (That is Social Services) if help is needed.

Not much more I can say about that.  The attitude towards the elderly and disabled stinks!

I spoke with my housing officer today and she did agree that term was probably not politically correct in this day and age. Maybe there can be a better name for the service.
Also as an update I had a phone call from the gardening contractors supervisor today and he was very apologetic and promised to get the situation sorted as soon as possible and not long after that the 2 gardeners that had done my lawns came out and when I explained the situation to them and showed them what I meant they were also very pleasant and helpful and cleared away a lot of the clipping's from the borders and have promised that it wont happen again.
But this situation should never have escalated the way it did....All I did was make a general complaint and very politely, I certainly never expected the response I received....not just the wording but the dismissive tone and attitude that was used.
Hopefully this will not happen again to someone else and that now it has been brought to the attention of the council maybe they will consider changing the name of these services for us, asking for a bit of dignity and respect should not be too much to ask

Unfortunately it is too much to ask.  My friend is in a wheelchair (most of the time) and those who came to 'trim' her tree - didnt stop!  I think the excuse was that there was too much dog excrement on the grass.  Now given she is disabled and tried to clear most of it up - it did surprise me that was their attitude.

Overall, I am not surprised at all in the response you got.  It is one I have come to expect from the Council to be honest.
