CCTV in Hatfield - is it up and working?
« on: July 25, 2009, 09:15:06 PM »
The reason I ask this is because when I went to Town today, THREE shops window's had been damaged.

The Bank (Nat West), HSBC and the Travel Agents.  The latter really came off the worst with three windows wrecked.

Interestingly, I wondered if the CCTV was working, would those responsible be traced?  PLEASE tell me if it is there - it is Working?

It's probably not working, pointing the wrong way or not of a sufficient resolution to be admissible as evidence....!

I think it is supposed to be working but is being monitored in St Albans so any respose may be very late.

At the recent town centre forum, several town centre business owners alleged that the CCTV was not working properly. We agreed a visit to the control room to assess what was happening, but the Council cancelled the visit and has not rearranged.

In the absence of a formal visit, I've asked if I can go, and will report back.

John Deans is a proven liar to the people of Welwyn Hatfield. Isn't it about time he did the honourable thing and stepped down, then at least we might believe some of the things we're told.

I guess all this damage is due to the school holidays and the belief that kids will be kids and they're just having fun.

If it turns out the kids are too young to be charged, let's just smash the windows of their home instead!! If arrested, just say it was 'self defence'.  ;)

If we had a nice new Town Centre would there be greatly improved security to stop such acts of vandalism ??? Much as I want a new town centre I don't think it would change the mentality of the "clientele". I'm sure the idiots that caused the latest damage will get away with it completely or (if they actually get caught) get a minor slap on the wrists. :(

A new town centre would just give this scum something else to destroy.

Not necessary true, if the area is viewed as a crumbling wreck then peoples behaviour reflects that. The opposite is also true, a nice clean enviroment to live in raises peoples self pride and are more likely to look after it.

There would still be incidents but i think overall they would be in the minority and not the majority we currently witness.
