Hi Folks,
A welcome update on the ASDA revolving door issue for your information...
MP welcomes ASDA planning application to replace revolving doorsThe problematic revolving door at Hatfield's ASDA is to be replaced after pressure from locals residents backed by MP Grant Shapps.
The door, which many accused of starving the troubled town centre of shoppers because of technical faults and limited opening hours, will be replaced in a £100,000 refit, providing a planning application currently in front of the council is approved. A new set of sliding doors will take its place, capable of manual operation if things go wrong.
Grant Shapps had previously successfully asked ASDA's management team to allow the door to remain open until later each day, allowing shoppers to move more easily between Hatfield's high street and the superstore.
Automatic sensors were also causing safety concerns and had led to shoppers getting trapped inside the doors after sudden stops. The MP recently went to view plans for the new doors and was pleased to see that they would be much more user-and Hatfield-friendly.
Mr Shapps said he was impressed that decisive action was being taken: "I've had many people come to me and comment that the town centre was losing out because of this problem. When the doors are closed, ASDA's customers feel less inclined to go into the town centre before or after going to the supermarket. Rather than walking the extra few hundred metres or so, they just got in their cars and left.
"It might seem such a small thing, but ASDA is an important part of the town centre and has a big role to play in it. I'm really glad they listened when I took these concerns to them."
Corporate Affairs Manager, Guy Mason, also agreed that he would ask the store to review the fact that once inside the store, shoppers still have to walk to the other end before getting into the shopping area itself.
Here's the existing revolving door plan, the new sliding door and picture by the problem doors.
