Very disappointing, but not at all surprising. We already knew that the Council were well aware of the delay long before they admitted it (i.e the evening of the local elections).  It’s a pity that the councillors that were so vocal prior to the elections, can only see fit now to say "I look forward to the redevelopment", but hey why should they care, the next elections arent for another four years are they!

Its disgraceful, ive seen these documents and nothing much at all appears to happen at these meetings.

Quite why we should sit back and allow this farce to continue and have faith in the authorities like Cllrs Smith and Atkinson do is beyond me.

Hence ACTION hatfield, theres not a lot being done by the councill, so we need to do it ourselves or at the very least, show them how shameful their inaction is.

I notice in April they mentioned the unfavourable press coverage, and the need for better communication with the public......3 months on that hasn't really happened has it?!

I wonder how many meetings a year with other suppliers go un-minuted?

Yes this is a farce and it's all so transparently dishonest too.

I had to laugh that the reason for not releasing papers/minutes was that they were
"Commercially sensitive"  ........You what?
Could it be that there is a possible competitor who could take advantage of such information and
table a rival bid?
If so, then please bring 'em on.

Sadly that will not be the case as the Council have allowed St.Modwens to dictate their own terms.
As a consequence we have to witness the awful spectacle of the leader of our Council telling porkies
from the hymn book of  St.Mods.

"From the hymn book of St.Mods" as suggested by Broadside.

Hymn no.45 "Nearer to thy Credit Crunch are thee"

Only some have been elected for 4 years, the other seats are up for re-election in 2010 and 2011.  See here for details.

What more can anyone expect?

It reminds me of the secrecy surrounding meetings and decisions that led to the Slough Estates debacle...

pjb, in case you have forgotten Labour where in control of the Council at the time of the slough Estates Debacle - and just for the record, to all the others who seem to be of the opinion that I am a Tory councillor, I can honestly put my hand on my heart and say "NO WAY" this 60 something female, is not a representative of any party,  of no particular political persuausion, the archetypale "floating voter" - and do not know or have never even met John Dean although at this moment in time the money that councillors get would come in useful to help me make ends meet! but on the other hand I would not probably have the time to devote to the job.

I too have had all the leaflets through the door, and although still not sure which way I shall be voting today a letter that came through my door last night, may be the deciding factor, and no I will no be telling you all which way I am swinging this time, but it will certainly not be for the same party that I voted for, for the first time in May.

what has any of that that got to do with this thread?! Pjb didn't say the tories were responsible for the Slough Estates fiasco, just that this situation reminded them of it. I can see their point as well!

decide for yourselves.

http://www.actionhatfield.org.uk/Minutes%2014th%20Feb%2008.pdf

http://www.actionhatfield.org.uk/Minutes%2017th%20April%2008.pdf

http://www.actionhatfield.org.uk/Minutes%2012th%20May%2008.pdf

Clear gaps there, and very little by way of progress. If we simply 'leave them to it', then all we can expect is more of the same.

I assume you mean the letter which represented Lib/Dems?  Very clever ploy of theirs. to get people to think they personally care for / about them by a personal letter.

and now john dean wants a meeting with a select few (of what is now a fairly small number anyway) traders from the town centre.

the actual 'end users' of the town centre arent invited apparently.

what a pathetic carnival our local leadership is turning into.

hmm, well with a 'promised' hospital and works 'to go ahead in 2008' , we wont be holding our breath  >:(
