First a man is found dead in a "out of order"  toilet at the brand new Watford Acute Unit. Then our own Trust announces £225,000 to upgrade ward bathrooms/toilets at the QEII. And today we learn from a survey by the Royal College of Nursing that a 1/3 of nurses admit to cleaning and storing vital hospital equipment in "bathrooms".  39% said their organisation did not provide cleaning services 24 hours a day. Whilst official figures show a drop in hospital aquired MRSA and C Diff, is enough being done at the most basic level to provide patients, staff and visitors a clean and hygienic environment?

Dr Peter Carter, RCN chief executive and general secretary, said: "Having the time and space to clean and then store essential everyday hospital equipment such as IV stands, commodes and patient cushions is crucial in keeping patients safe from dangerous infections.

incedulous, how to they even dare to hope that they can wipe out C diff, and MRSA when they cannot even bother to keep the hospital facilities in a germ free condition.

What I say is, "BRING BACK MATRON" and get rid of all the faceless bureacrats, with the vast savings generated they would have considerably more to spend on our hospital.
