She was involved in a hard-working and successful campaign leading up to the 1st May 2008 WHB Council elections when she in effect displaced former Lib Dem Cllr Nigel Quinton, who we understand will be a parliamentary candidate in another constituency

"former Lib Dem Cllr Nigel Quinton, who we understand will be a parliamentary candidate in another constituency"

What has this got to do with anything?

One of the activities Cllr Fiona Thomson has been involved with, is the mixed can collection service, which started on the 16th June 2008

See web-site http://www.welhat.gov.uk/environmentplanning/rubbishwasteandrecycling/newmixedcancollections

I know that Tony Skottowe is a member of this forum and has made many contributions, but what about Fiona Thomson and Helen Bromley?  Indeed, can anyone say why Helen wasn't at the Marsden Road post office protest on Friday whereas Grant, a busy MP, and TS were...?   I think Fiona was, but I haven't seen her before so not sure?

It's just that I feel we need one of these three to look into the Lombardy Poplar tree cull being planned for Stanborough Park -  that looks like another done deal. Who is likely to take this on and get it nipped in the bud? We could do with a successful campaign for once to boost moral!

As you can see from various postings, this is going to prove a VERY unpoplar (sic) move; one that will increase noise levels, reduce the asthetic contribution of these wonderful trees and set a precedent for chopping down similar aged poplars in Parkway and the rest of the town and, frankly, waste a lot of our money!

Mythoughts

I cannot see Tony Skottow's name on the Forum's Membership list - maybe these days as a Lib Dem he wants to hide his light under a bushel using a pseudonym when and if he is making contributions.

Ah, beg your pardon. It must have been Nigel Quinton I was thinking of.

Hey, Mickey, as you're so fine, can you answer the second part of my question in good time? re Fiona and Helen...I want to know if it's worth posting anything here for general information and specifically for their attention? I have to say, I don't get much joy emailing cllrs directly...

Thanks

My experience is that you get even less joy from them by posting on the forum.  But then, I live in a different ward, so maybe it will be different with the Handside councillors.

Cllr Fiona Thomson was very much at the Post Office meeting. It was her idea and she called and led the meeting. Cllr Helen Bromley had an urgent personal matter to deal with and presented her apologies to the meeting

As regards the proposal to cull the Poplars in Stanborough Park, Helen reports she is fully aware of the possible cull. The Handside Cllrs are ensuring that Finesse Leisure are taking advice from the WHBC Landscape and Ecology Dept.  There will be a Public Meeting about the issue in the South Lakes car park at 6.30pm on 7th August 2008

Thanks. That's not a point of view though is it? And whilst the meeting is on the evening of 7th one only has until 8th to make any comments...and they don't give an email address only a postal one to which to send such comments to. That being so, if you waited until the evening of the 7th before getting their perspective and still wanted to comment, you'd need to get in a time machine to post your letter of complaint. Are the Cllrs aware of this?  Is Cllr Bromley aware that if they chop these trees down a precedent will dictate that they'll have to chop the Poplars down that are virtually outside her house? Perhaps that might focus her mind in lending a word or two of support to people that oppose this...or perhaps it's not something of interest i.e. an issue in her ward and on her doorstep? As you've got both Cllrs ears on this Mickey, perhaps you can feedback their actual thoughts on this proposal and the timings of the public meeting with respect to the  process to comment/complain?

Submissions can be made by e-mail to Finesse Leisure [re the poplars culling] on the 8th August, after the 7th August public meeting, to m.ford@finesseleisure.com

I would imagine you will get the Cllrs views at that meeting

So we don't have to imagine, can you confirm they'll be there then? Do you work for them Mickey?

Cllr Helen Bromley will definitely be at the Lombardy Poplars meeting at 6.30pm on the 7th August at the South Lakes car park

As regards my connection with these Cllrs, I am sure you are aware [mythoughts] that good journalists never disclose their sources of information
