Cycle path development is controlled by the Welwyn Urban Transport Plan which runs from 2008-2011. One of the long term aims is to continue the path from Bessemer Road to Welwyn and then on to Oaklands, but there's no timescale for this. The only works being done in WGC in the short term are Broadwater Road (so you can go from Bessemer Road onto Mill Green and Hatfield) and the missing bit of path at Stanborough to complete the WGC - Hatfield Business Park route. As always it's down to tight money and priority being given to road building (£600,000 for cycle paths accross the whole county v several million for roads). Which where Welwyn Hatfield Cycling Forum hopes we can lobby to make a difference. Do please look at our web site
www.welhatcycling.org.uk and do join us.
Having said all that, a practial suggestion or two:
Have you tried the Cole Green Way to Hertford or the Great North Way to Stevenage or even the Ayot Greenway to Wheathampstead?
You can down load the maps from the WHBC web site at
http://www.welhat.gov.uk/transportstreets/walkingcycling/cycling Unfortunately the Pedal Point service is suspended at the moment so you can't ask for the set to be posted to you. Rest assured WHCF have asked why this has happened, just at the time of year when people are keen to get out and about. Apparently the council has had a restrucuring....
Hope helps
