Grant Shapps MP was delighted to open three new bungalows on Wheatley Road, Welwyn Garden City last Friday, marking the latest development as part of the Local Authority’s plans to increase and improve affordable housing across Welwyn Hatfield.
The bungalows, which will be managed by the Welwyn Garden City Housing Association are built on a site that was formally garage sites, and will allow current tenants to move into more suitable homes that will free up under occupied homes for families in the borough.
Grant said ‘These are fantastic new homes that are well suited to the area and will offer more comfortable and suitable accommodation to existing tenants whilst freeing up family sized housing for the many people who contact me concerned about their family’s housing needs.’
Councillor Roger Trigg, Executive Member for Housing and Community, said:
“I’m delighted we’re able to unveil this scheme here, alongside the Welwyn Garden City Housing Association and BSG Property Services. These new homes will ensure older people have adequate facilities. It also means families who required them can live in larger homes previously occupied by older people. Developments such as this one match homes that are appropriate to each occupant.”
